The Construction Of The World's Highest UHV Transmission Tower Has Been Completed

    On April 1, the State Grid Jinshang-Hubei ±800 kV UHVDC transmission project was completed in Sichuan with the highest elevation tower. The base tower has an altitude of 4797.9 meters, which is also the highest UHV transmission tower in the world.

    The area where the tower is located has sparse vegetation, thin air, cold and complex climate, frequent sudden snow, which brings great challenges to the site construction. Faced with multiple tests of "regional blank area", "technological innovation area" and "construction no-man's land", State Grid Sichuan Electric Power Company has organized participating units to survey the site for many times, and repeatedly explored the construction strength and mechanical equipment efficiency of site operators to minimize the impact of high altitude on construction efficiency. The company carried out single-base planning in advance, adopted mechanized construction methods, and completed the formation work in only 5 days by building temporary roads to ensure the entry of large crane equipment. The whole process of the project applies environmental water protection and treatment, and the environmental water protection and treatment are deployed and carried out together with the construction of towers.

    The Jinshang-Hubei UHV Power transmission Project is the highest UHV DC power transmission project in the world. The sending end collects hydropower and new energy from the upper reaches of the Jinsha River, and the receiving end connects to the UHV AC backbone grid in Central China. The total length of the DC line is 1901 kilometers, passing through 4 provinces. At present, the construction of the tower group has been carried out in many places throughout the project, and the project has entered the peak period of the tower group. After the completion of the project, it can transport nearly 40 billion KWH of electricity to Central China every year, which will play an important role in meeting the reliable supply of electricity.
